AKA Toe Jam is a long-running rock band from Hiroshima, Japan, featuring a rotating lineup of local Japanese musicians and expats. Active since 1989, the group has maintained a steady presence in the local scene, playing monthly through the early 2000s, and at least once a year most years since. 2025 brought a big uptick with 12 shows, and 2026 will feature the first ever Tokyo show. They specialize in high-energy classic rock and blues rock covers, creating a fun, cross-cultural atmosphere at bars and live venues in Hiroshima and occasionally further afield. Core and recurring members have included singer Neil Van Wouw, singer/guitarist Scott Yano, guitarists Futoshi Morioka and Akihiko Okada. For their upcoming June/July shows in Hiroshima and Tokyo, the lineup features Neil, Futoshi, Okada, along with Morisawa and Ondo. With decades of performances and regular reunions, AKA Toe Jam continues to bring together old friends and fans for lively rock sets that capture the spirit of Hiroshima’s vibrant live scene they helped to pioneer.
